November 2, 2008

Dear Friends,

I had a wonderful opportunity last week to speak to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders at a neighboring church. I told them about my injury and some of my struggles to adjust and move forward. I wanted them to think about the importance of attitude in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they’ll confront.

I think they might have been more interested in the sight of a dog in church. Monte was clearly the main attraction as twenty sets of hands petted, patted, and scratched.

As we talked about life’s struggles and joys, our conversation reminded me of the refreshing perspective our kids bring to our culture’s complexities. Their honest questions and sincere concerns reflected understanding, compassion, and a desire to make sense of frequently senseless circumstances. They left me with an authentic sense of optimism.

I want to share some exciting news. After a couple of years navigating the maze of the publishing world, Relentless Grace will be released (finally!!) in mid-November of 2008.

I want to express my thanks to those who encouraged me to undertake this project. Our communication played a key role in shaping the final product. Tossing a personal story out in public can be intimidating, and I really appreciate the kind words from so many of you.

If you’re in the Fort Collins area, we’ve scheduled a release celebration and book signing event on Sunday, December 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Everyday Joe’s Coffee House, 144 S. Mason Street. Details are attached to the end of this message. Please plan to stop by and visit, meet some old and new friends, and allow me to sign a book for you.

I’ll also be signing books at Timberline Church on a weekend TBD.

If you can’t attend either of these events, I’d like to offer the opportunity to order a signed copy of the book. Please click this button for details.

I need to convey my discomfort with the whole idea of selling stuff. I wrote the book to tell a story and certainly not to make money, but the story gets shared through selling books. I’m excited to hear reader responses, and I truly hope the story touches some lives. A chunk of the proceeds will go to a couple of worthy causes, which makes me feel a bit less crassly commercial.

I’d also appreciate your help in spreading the word about this book. Please forward this announcement to friends, family, and former students or parents who may be interested. Perhaps you know someone who might appreciate or benefit from a story of hope, accomplishing impossible dreams, and overcoming obstacles. If so, please forward this message.

Personal News

As publication of Relentless Grace approaches, I’m anxious to schedule additional book signing events. I’d welcome the opportunity to visit your community and your organization or church, meet your friends, and share a bit of my story.

If you are engaged in raising funds for a group or individual, send me an email and let’s discuss using the book to support your efforts.

I’m also seeking opportunities to share the message of encouragement and hope with both general and faith-based audiences. If your church or organization is looking for a motivational speaker, please contact me or forward this information to an appropriate contact.

My web site receives hits from all over the world through the networking power of the Internet. Thanks for helping me to expand my circle by forwarding this email to friends and family.

I’m blessed by new friends I’m met through this process and by the continuing support of folks who’ve guided and encouraged for a long time.

Blessings,

If courage is the ability to do great
things, then the most important part
of courage is how we
give it to others, and that's
ENCOURAGE.
I think that's a big part of our mission--
to encourage others to do great things.
